Thanks Masooma! Startup equity is a wild world that very few people get to share in the success of. Glad I could unpack some of that for y'all today :)

This was an incredibly valuable peek behind the curtain, Nick! Thank you for sharing! As someone who's never actually been a full time employee, these non-traditional options you've shared are so useful!

It can really be life changing if you draw the right lottery ticket! And nothing sucks more than working for a company that sells for $2 billion and not having ANY equity. I asked multiple times, including during when they recruited me, and they didn't give equity to anyone who wasn't a Director or above which is maddening and so unfair.

Thanks, Rohin! Hope things are going well at Magical. FWIW I'm sure Harpaul would be happy to help explain this stuff to you too, he has a different perspective as a founder and occasional investor. I've asked him some equity questions after I've left and he's been very helpful and gracious to share his knowledge with me over email.

I'm grateful to have benefitted at all and it was very interesting and exciting to go through the process, if the final amount was ultimately a little underwhelming based on where my expectations were when I initially signed my offer letter at Loom :) Always happy to talk about my experiences and especially the finance stuff.
