All I know is they had over 1,000 subscribers, which was more than me at the time! In hindsight, the audience match could've been better but it was a solid test that didn't cost me anything. Next time I'd be more selective with the newsletters I swap with to make sure their subscribers match my core audience.
55 subscribers sound pretty good with that size of audience! I'm also experimenting with ads in newsletter. I'm curious how it'll go!
Thanks for the article! It sounds like it would work if you bought another newsletter from Duuce or a marketplace like that. I didn't see a mention of it in the article.
Love this. My big takeaway from this is I need ti be using the I quit storyline for LinkedIn. I wonder if they will like my ‘I quit the agency I run with the cofounder of my children’ to build on Substack narrative 🧐
Paying $500 for 55 new subscribers isn't a bad deal.
I tested a bunch of LinkedIn ads to subscribers and was getting anything from $20 to $50 per new subscriber. So i probably wouldn't recommend that unless you've got a lot more money than time. But $9 to $15 seems like a fairly good deal.
But swapping newsletters and collaboration on that scale is definitely a great idea. Thanks for sharing.
Such a helpful newsletter, thank you!
Thank YOU Polly for always dropping comments and support! I see you!
Do you happen to have the data of the newsletter you advertised in? I'm curious about the size of the newsletter.
Also, I didn't know about Gmail condoning buying newsletters to add it to your email list. Thanks for sharing this!

Buying email lists is one of those things that seems like a great idea but is sneakily bad. More info here if you're curious: https://mailchimp.com/resources/never-purchase-email-lists/
